Westward, Ho....

Heading West I-40/Appalachian Mountains NC
So...we're off!  We headed out early AM Monday, April 30th and had an uneventful drive west to Asheville, NC, where we hooked up for lunch with good friends Walter and Virgie Rittenhouse.

Back on the road again, we blasted the rest of the way across North Carolina, thru the tunnel and into Tennessee.  We were just approaching Knoxville about 5:30PM and looking for a place to spend the night....when we see this car pass us with a lady waving her arms frantically and pointing to us!!!

Next thing we know, we are surrounded by smoke everywhere.  Dick managed to get the camper safely to the side of the highway, but could not make it to the exit ramp before Rusty Rider just died.

Monster Tow Truck Comes to out Rescue
Check out the size of this tow truck!!  By this time, we are happy to be rescued.  It was a major operation to get Rusty Rider set up for towing

Soon, Dick, Cutter and I are following in tow as 'RR' travels to what will become our temporary home for the next few days

Our Temporary Home During Repairs

Here we are at Interstate Repairs, which we learn will be our temporary home thru the week.  Seems our transmission has blown out and we will need a new one....YIKES!

Of course, they cannot get one for our 1997 model, so a new one is being built in Indiana.  It is to arrive Thursday.  In the meantime, we have really lucked out because there just happens to be an RV hookup with 30 amp service......so, we are plugged in and I am happy!!!  The temps here will be in the 90's, so I am grateful for cool and comfy digs.  Stay tuned for more adventures....Posted by Picasa

  1. So sorry to hear you are having troubles, but glad you are safe. I guess it's just all part of the adventure.
